How to take care of a dog with diabetes?I'll have a definite diagnosis tomorrow, but I fear my dog has diabetes and am worried how I'll be able to care for him. I'm hoping to connect with others who have been through this.

Poor baby! Unfortunately there is no permanent cure for diabetes, but in case your dog is affected with the disease he certainly needs a special treatment. You need to take care of his diet and also he should not get wounded by any chance.

My aunts Poodle had diabetes and she had to give him incline shots 2-3 times a day and he had a special diet and on some RARE occasions he had diabetic seizures. He was 14 years old and blind and deaf. This was 9-10 years ago so I don't know if this is what you still have to do. I'm sure your vet will go over everything you need to know and if you have to give him shots, their not that hard to do. The vet would show you how to do it properly.

My dog had diabetes, but he passed away last year. Anyway we controlled his diabetes with a special diet and insulin shots every 12 hours. It can become somewhat expensive, but it's well worth it.

My dog has had diabetes since she was 2. There are definitely things you can do to help. If your dog has Type 2 diabetes, you should feed her raw meat such as deer meat, mixed with a green vegetable to help her digestion. You should cut way back on all snacks that have carbs in them. Certain other products such as guar gum have been found effective in treating dogs with diabetes.
