The test is simple, Glicemia: level of blood sugar if it is high it is called Hiperglicemia, low: Hipoglicemia. There are differences in the normal levels of glicemia depending if you ate recently or not. So the first test is glicemia after an overnight fast. If that is normal, that's it. if not then there are other test like challenged glicemia, which means you get a drink of sugar syrup and they check your levels after the intake. For the symptoms there's a lot and they are different for people but some: dizziness, constant thirst, frequent urination, weight loss.

There are several ways to test:
1) A simple urine test will give an indication for howhigh your blood sugar is.
2) They can do a resting blood sugar test to see how high your sugar is.
3) They can do a Hemoglobin A1C to see on average, how high your sugar has been.
Symptoms of diabetes include: Weight loss, irritability, sudden poor eyesight, insatiable thirst, leg cramps when you lay down, horrid pain in your kidneys, increased urination

In my own experience with my hubby, I noticed he drinks a lot of water and urinates often, he lost 10kg in 1 month w/o dieting, he suddenly has the sore in his toe nail(under the nail, he feels sleepy most of the time, as it runs in his blood(family history) i suspected that he has high blood sugar, and yes its positive........hope the above helps you...

There are several tests.
1. Pee strips. These are strips you can buy at the drug store that test your urine. They aren't expensive. Unfortunately, they also aren't very reliable. Some people do not test positive until their sugars are at unsafe levels. It depends on how well your kidneys are functioning.
2. A urine test at your doctors office. If he detects sugar, he'll be ordering more testing. This is MUCH more reliable than the pee strips.
2. A Blood Sugar monitor. Any diabetic who's sane owns one and uses it. They can help you with a quick test but a high reading means see the doctor. Don't jump to conclusions on a single high reading. Normal people do get them sometimes. You still need your doctor's advice.
3. An A1C test at the doctor's office. This is a fairly definitive test that shows blood sugar activity for the past 3 months.
If you don't have diabetes, you have time to avoid it by changing you diet now. A small change now could mean a lot less trouble later.
I'm giving you links to a few good information sites..
